Matt's BMW E30 M3..The Progression
Photography & Words By Wynn
It's been quite some time since I've seen Matt's car. So when he told me he had made some changes, I was excited to see it in person.
Waiting at the location we had agreed upon to do this shoot, I heard him coming before I could see him. When he eventually did roll up, my reaction on how it looked, brought a smile to my face. Last time I saw Matt's car, it was sporting a set of Ronal wheels. At that time I thought his car was as pretty as it could possibly be, even though Matt did hint at picking up a new set of wheels, showing me pics of the set he was interested in on his phone. The set, as you see here, were Hamann PG1's. Wheels that I am very fond of, so when he pulled up rocking the new set up, I was so impressed with how it now looked, I couldn't help but smile.
The car looks incredible in person. I've always been impressed with how Matt has gone about working on his car. He does a good job at keeping his car simple and OEM+ looking while adding little flares of his personal touch. The addition of the Hamann set, sizing 17x8 and 17x9, does a good job at exactly that. It gives this M3 a different look while keeping those classic lines and heritage vibe the M3 is known for.
Inside, Matt has gone for a more racing orientated set up. Still sporting the Sparco quick release steering wheel, but now pairing it with a set of Sparco Ergo racing seats. The whole interior feels track purpose, yet still very comfortable and useable for day to day drives.
Even though this car looks impeccable, there are still a few future plans Matt has for it. Firstly the transfer to the EVO front bumper, then secondly the addition of the EVO rear wing flap. This in itself is enough to have me looking forward to what’s to come. But that isn't it, leaving the most intriguing of all plans for last, Matt is thinking of doing a DTM inspired wrap.
He showed me pictures of his idea of what he would like to do, and I can say for a certainty it would be very stunning. Matt has, without question, continued to make additions to his E30 that have improved what many would believe is already perfection. He does a good job in taking his time with decisions on what he wants to do and then completes it to perfection. Personally I'm very excited to see what’s next to come, but until then lets just enjoy what we see here, as it's pretty damn good so far!
