Imagine you’re in your newer BMW, it’s a nice summer day and you’re working traffic, cruising in the fast lane. In your peripherals, you spot an E30 cruising down the on ramp. You think to yourself, I’ll drop a gear and show this guy what a modern bimmer can do. To your surprise, the E30 is now right next to you, you then hear its’ owner floor it and to your amazement he leaves you in his rearview mirror. Unsure of what just happened, you creep next to him at the red light. You look over and the owner and his girlfriend are grinning at your expense, you question the E30 owner on what just happened and as the light turns green, you hear him yell back, it’s got a V8, he then takes off leaving you both pissed and impressed with what just occurred.

There’s no question that the E30 is a special car. Yes it’s sporty, yes it’s classy but it’s also, more importantly, cool and relatable. Today the “car scene” is filled with many different interests, stance, JDM, muscle, track, the list goes on and on. The E30 is the kind of car that wouldn’t be frowned upon in any of these categories, it’s unassuming yet reels in attention. In today’s “car scene” you’ll see a lot of newer models, Genesis’s and FR-S’s, and there’s nothing particularly wrong with these cars, however you have to wonder if these cars will hold the taste of time. I mean the E30 is now over 30 years old and it’s still relatable with old and young generations of people. When you see an E30, especially one that looks like Matija’s, you can’t help but be a fan and give props to it.

It’s funny how things work, I started this site not really knowing what I wanted it to be. To be honest, I’m still not sure I have an idea of what it is or what it will become. Yet, I do know I enjoy classic bimmers and the stories that come with their ownership. Sure, I’m not the best photographer or story writer out there, but having an avenue in which I get to discuss these cars with their fellow owners is really what I feel this sites’ mentality is all about. The M3 definitely has one of the better reputations when it comes to an iconic sports car. It’s known for it’s sublime handling, strong engine performance and above all it’s perfected balance. It’s the kind of car you can drive day to day doing errands. Then on the weekend, head over to your local track and have a little go. It’ll bring a smile to your face no matter what your objective is that day. Plus, if you ever decide that the constant smiling is taking a toll on your face, selling an M3 wouldn’t be too tough. The M3 is known to not only maintain its’ value but in certain situations, increases over time. Case in point, Damon’s Estoril Blue M3 in the convertible variant which is a rarity among Canada as the ‘vert never came to us up here in the North. Yet, regardless of whatever this car may be worth, Damon uses it on a daily and uses it hard. Hell, he even takes it to the track for lapping or backlot drifting for some reckless fun.

There's no question that todays' automotive community is vast and diverse. With increased usage of social platforms such as Instagram, it's become easier than ever to discover and connect with other automotive enthusiasts around the globe. Yet, there's something about developing friendships and bonds with like-minded individuals that are local. In fact, meeting locals that have cars you admire is probably more special than the ones we drool over on our phone screens. It's one of the reasons Oaties was created. Having the opportunity to see these local cars in person and meeting their owners is beyond special. Gill is one of these local owners. I met him through the automotive community and have known of his E34 for quite some time. Yet, the opportunities to shoot his car kept getting postponed (entirely my fault) to a later date. Finally, the opportunity to feature his car arose once again and I was eager to grab my camera and get snapping. This is his 1995 540i and as you can see, it was well worth the wait.
